Day 1 & 2 – Start of the 2 weeks Sri Lanka round trip

Description of the day
Your two-week Sri Lanka trip begins with an overnight flight.

Depending on when you fly to Sri Lanka, you can reach Colombo Airport early in the morning or during the day.
At the airport you will be greeted by your driver and taken to the hotel. Sri Lanka Airport is outside of the city and it takes approximately 20 minutes to drive to the northern fishing village of Negombo. A wide sandy beach awaits you and you can get a first impression of the country. Negombo is a small place with many restaurants and bars, where you can get used to the climate and the time change. A perfect start to your Sri Lanka trip.
In Negombo you will stay in comfortable accommodation near the beach with a private pool and air conditioning.

Day 3 – Explore Negombo

Description of the day
The small fishing village Negombo offers numerous opportunities to spend the day.

Many restaurants, temples and shops line the town’s small streets. The wide golden-yellow sandy beach allows for miles of beach walks.
So that you already get an insight into the life of the locals and the country, we have planned a visit to the largest fish market in Sri Lanka on this day. Here the fishermen present their catches of the night. After your visit to the market, you can experience the place from a different perspective: You take a small boat through the canals that wind through Negombo and also explore the large lagoon of the fishing village.

Day 4 – Sigiriya rocks

Description of the day
Today you travel to the cultural center and visit one of the greatest highlights of Sri Lanka – the Lion Rock of Sigiriya.

The rock has an important historical significance for Sri Lanka. The ancient kings left their mark in colorful murals. Some of the “cloud girls” still shine in magnificent colors. You should be fit and free from vertigo for the ascent. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a sweeping view of the royal gardens and the palm-covered jungle landscape. After the descent you will be driven directly to your accommodation.
The rest of the day is at your leisure. Relax by the hotel’s pool or discuss with your driver that you would like to explore the region a little more to get to know the country and its people.

Day 5 – Guided tour of Polonnaruwa and jeep safari

Description of the day
An eventful day begins for you!

First you visit the cultural center of Polonnaruwa and your driver shows you the interesting corners and sights of the former royal city of the country. For lunch we have planned a local curry on a farm. In the afternoon you will once again discover the diverse wildlife of Sri Lanka. You will be picked up by a ranger and go on a safari in the Kadulla or Minneriya National Park by jeep. The ranger selects the park for you based on the number of animals. The elephants live here in large herds. Observe the behavior in the natural habitat of the animals – another Sri Lanka highlight. You spend another night in your hotel.

Day 6 – Visit Dambulla and continue to Kandy

Days Description
After breakfast you travel in the third and last royal capital of Sri Lanka – Kandy.

On the way from Polonnaruwa to the central highlands you will visit the famous cave temple of Dambulla. The temple is elevated above the city of Dambulla and appears to have been swallowed up by a massive rock. From the outside it looks rather unspectacular, but inside, countless, colorful paintings decorate the walls and golden Buddha statues adorn the rooms. After your visit to Dambulla, the journey to Kandy continues. On the way you will get an insight into the craftsmanship of the locals in a batik factory or a spice garden.

You spend the night in an accommodation slightly above the city center and can enjoy the view of the landscape.

Day 7 – Kandy

Description of the day
Today your driver shows you the highlights of the royal city in the hills. Visit the royal botanical garden of Peradeniya, which is not only an absolute highlight for plant lovers.

In the afternoon you can watch a traditional dance show in Kandy, where locals show off Sri Lankan dances to visitors. After the impressive performance, explore Sri Lanka’s most important and holiest temple – the Temple of the Tooth. According to legend, a tooth of Buddha is hidden here. It is the best, but also the most visited time, as many ceremonies are held in the evenings. So another exciting day of your Sri Lanka trip comes to an end and you spend another night in your cozy hotel in the hills of Kandy.

Day 8 – Foray through green tea plantations

Description of the day
Today you travel on to the central highlands.

To get an insight into how the famous Ceylon tea is made, visit one of the many tea factories along the way. The individual processes are brought closer to you here and of course there is also a hot cup of Ceylon tea to try. In the afternoon you will reach Nuwara Eliya, the highest village in Sri Lanka.

Here we have planned another highlight of your Sri Lanka trip for you. Together with a Sri Lankan family, you will prepare your dinner and learn how to prepare a traditional curry. You get to know the country and its people in a very special way. You will stay in one of the British hotels in a central location. You don’t need air conditioning in the cool mountains.

Day 9 – Horton Plains and panoramic train ride to Ella

Description of the day
It is most likely in the early morning hours to experience the Horton Plains National Park with clear skies.

Therefore, your day starts very early and you hike to the imposing World’s End – a great insight into the untouched nature of Sri Lanka! After the hike through the national park, you can freshen up at your hotel before heading to the Nanu Oya train station. This is where the most popular excursion for many travelers begins: They take one of the traditional trains through the mountainous panoramic landscapes to Ella. The trains run at a leisurely pace, so that you can reach the small mountain village of Ella in about 3 hours. In the tranquil place we have selected a special accommodation for you with an incomparable view over the surrounding area. In a few minutes you can reach the center of the city. Air conditioning is not necessary here either.

Day 10 – Explore the mountains

Description of the day
After sunrise you can arrange the day as you wish.

You will receive a packed lunch from your hotel and can start the day either with a nature hike or a city tour. Although Ella is a small place, there is a lot to discover in the area. For example, you can reach the summit of Little Adam’s Peak in just 2 hours. Passing densely overgrown forests and tea fields, you come to this viewpoint in the tea hills, where you will enjoy a magnificent view. The hiking trails are well signposted and you can explore the area on your own. Alternatively, you can spend the day a little quieter and let the calmness and vastness of the landscape take effect with a cool drink and a good book. You will spend the night again in your comfortable accommodation with a unique view of the green valley and the unique landscape.

Day 11 & 12 – Relaxation on Tangalle beach

Description of the day
Now the active part of your 2 weeks Sri Lanka round trip is over and you drive on to the south coast of Sri Lanka to Tangalle.

Here we have discovered a small oasis for you to relax on the beach for the next few days. You spend the night in a cabana (wooden bungalow, without air conditioning) in a very quiet location. The cabanas offer a rustic ambience and stand on wooden stilts with a terrace, where you can enjoy a great view of the turquoise blue sea in a hammock. The small bay is like paradise and invites you to relax. The fresh sea breeze and a ceiling fan ensure a pleasant climate in your accommodation. Relax in the refreshing pool in the next few days, enjoy an excellent curry dish in the hotel’s restaurant and arrange the vacation days according to your taste.

Day 13 – time travel through bile

Days Description
Say goodbye to your little paradise in Unawatuna and travel with your driver towards Galle.

Many Dutch lived here several years ago, the influences of which are still visible today. Impressive churches and a large city wall characterize the cityscape. Colombo, your last stop on the tour, is a little further north. The capital of Sri Lanka does not offer the classic sights, but is very worth seeing. For example, visit one of the colorful markets or stroll along the promenade before enjoying high tea in the late afternoon and ending your day in your centrally located hotel. Your room is equipped with air conditioning.

Day 14 – End of your 2 weeks Sri Lanka trip

Description of the day
After 2 weeks in Sri Lanka it is time to say goodbye.

Your driver will take you to Colombo Airport on time for your departure. This is not right in the heart of the city, but a little outside.

Many flights to Europe start early in the morning, so leave your hotel early. If your departure is late or in the evening, you still have time to explore Colombo. We are happy to book a suitable international flight from Colombo to Europe.
