Day 1 & 2 – Ayubowan! Welcome to Sri Lanka

Description of the day
After landing our private driver is already waiting for you at the airport and on the way to the hotel you can experience the hustle and bustle on Sri Lanka’s streets.

Your atmospheric accommodation is about a two-minute walk from the beach and there are numerous local restaurants in the area. Refresh yourself in the pool or take a first walk on the beach to get in the mood for the time ahead.


Day 3 – Your Sri Lanka vacation with children begins

Description of the day
Today you will set off early to fish your lunch together. After the captain has found a suitable place in the lagoon, he takes out the bamboo poles and it is said: time for fishing.

If the famous fishing luck is not on your side today, Negombo’s fish market offers a large selection of different fish. From large shrimp to freshly caught tuna, there is something for everyone. The fish is prepared for you in a cozy restaurant on the beach.


Day 4 – Explore the cave temple in Dambulla

Description of the day
From Negombo drive towards Dambulla in Sri Lanka’s green interior. The five magnificent caves of the temple in the place are full of gilded Buddha statues and impressive wall paintings.

Some of them are over 2000 years old. The many monkeys that you encounter on the way to the caves are sure to arouse your children’s interest. Your hotel with a pool is located near Sigiriya. We recommend the hotel restaurant for the evening.


Day 5 – Climbing the Lion Rock

Description of the day
The Lion Rock of Sigiriya is a 200 meter high monolith that majestically dominates the jungle. You can climb the rocks in a good hour via steep, well-secured stairs.

Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a sweeping view of the royal gardens and the palm-covered jungle landscape. Afterwards you can relax well deservedly at the hotel’s pool or enjoy an unforgettable sunset over the Lion Rock from the nearby Pidurangala Rock.


Day 6 – Beach stay in Uppuveli

From April to September you can enjoy the best on the east coast of Sri Lanka beach weather in sleepy Uppuveli.

There are only a few hotels and restaurants along the extensive, gently sloping beach of Uppuveli. Enjoy the authentic impressions and encounters with locals in this original region of Sri Lanka, which has so far hardly been discovered by western tourists.


Day 7 & 8 – snorkeling and relaxing

For active change during your Sri Lanka holiday with children makes a trip to Pigeon Island National Park, which can be easily reached by a short boat ride.

The offshore coral reef is ideal for snorkeling, because in addition to colorful fish you can see octopus, sea turtles and, with a little luck, even reef sharks. Around noon you return to the mainland by boat and still have enough time to enjoy the tropical beach idyll in Uppuveli.

Day 9 – on a jeep safari

Description of the day
From the coast you drive to the old royal city of Polonnaruwa, the former capital of the country. On the way there is the Minneriya National Park.

Embark on an unforgettable jeep safari with a ranger. In this area there are countless herds of elephants that you can encounter in the wild. Afterwards you drive to your cozy accommodation in Polonnaruwa. The hotel is located directly on the lake and you can relax in the hotel pool from your eventful day.

Day 10 – bike tour between temple ruins

Description of the day
Today you follow the traces of the old kingdom. The bike tour is scheduled for late afternoon, when it is a bit cooler and most of the visitors are already gone.

Your guide will drive you through the extensive area of ​​the temple ruins to the most important sights. After the bike tour, you can relax comfortably at the hotel pool for the rest of the evening. Your Sri Lanka vacation with children should also include this facet.

Day 11 – The Capital of Culture Kandy

Description of the day
Today you leave the lowlands and drive through the green hills towards Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka.

Your hotel with swimming pool is located in these hills, not far from the city. The family rooms are spacious and from the restaurant you have a beautiful view of the green surroundings. Take the tuk tuk to the center and take a leisurely stroll along the lake. Here is also the sacred Temple of the Tooth.


Day 12 – Fire dance and victim rituals

Description of the day In the
morning you can explore the botanical garden. When it gets dark, visit a Sri Lankan dance and fire show first. Afterwards you will go to the largest sanctuary of Kandy, the Temple of the Tooth.

According to tradition, the Buddha’s canine is kept here. Monks perform rituals three times a day and arrive here in time for the puja at 6 p.m.


Day 13 – time for tea in Ella

Description of the day
From Kandy you drive into the mountains and soon you will be surrounded by tea plantations. You stop at an old tea factory and take a small tour. Everywhere you look, tea is dried, shaken or selected.

The fresh tea that you can try afterwards tastes great. Your hotel in Ella is located high on a mountain and offers a spectacular view of the surrounding hills.

Day 14 – Trekking to Little Adam’s Peak

Description of the day
Today a hike to the summit of Little Adam is planned. On the way you look over the tea fields and meet some tea pickers in their colorful saris, who are happy to be photographed for a few rupees.

Once at the top, enjoy a fantastic view of the panoramic mountain landscape. In the evening you can drive into the village with the tuk tuk, enjoy the relaxed backpacker atmosphere and fortify yourself in the cozy restaurant for the next day.


Day 15 – On the way to the south coast

Description of the day
Today you drive towards Yala National Park, another highlight of your Sri Lanka vacation with your children.

The landscape is slowly becoming flatter and drier as you leave the mountains behind. The hotel is located in Tissamaharama on the edge of the Yala National Park. From the room you have a view of the beautifully landscaped garden with pool.


Day 16 – Safari in Yala National Park

Description of the day
A robust four-wheel drive vehicle is ready to take you to the national park. The Yala is – also because of its biodiversity – the most famous national park in Sri Lanka.

The drivers coordinate with each other in search of wild animals and therefore there is a good chance to see elephants, water buffalos, crocodiles and maybe even a rare leopard. Then return to your cozy hotel in Tissa and relax by the pool.


Day 17-19 – Beach stay in Unawatuna

Description of the day
Along the south coast you make your way to Unawatuna. Once there, it’s time to say goodbye to your private driver, who has reliably and proudly guided you through “his” beautiful country.

You will spend the night in a cozy hotel near the beach. Unawatuna is a pretty lively coastal town with various small restaurants, bars and hotels. Relax in the next few days on the extensive beach, enjoy a curry dish in the hotel’s restaurant and design the vacation days according to your taste. If you want a different hotel, we would be happy to present alternative accommodations from our portfolio.


Day 20 – End of your 3-week Sri Lanka vacation with children

Description of the day
Depending on when your international flight connection to your home country starts, drive to Sri Lanka’s airport in the morning.

If you have a little more time due to your departure time, you can enjoy an extensive breakfast and stroll a bit through the streets of Unawatuna. Your varied Sri Lankan holiday with your children ends and you return home.
